Happy December 1st!!!

We have been seriously craftastic these past few days. My sewing machine seems to be permanatly attached to our kitchen table, fabric scraps being cut and sewn together to create festive pieces of sweet goodness for the happ happ happiest time of the year, glue gun mounted and plugged into the wall socket on our kitchen counter high above the reach of curious hands, glitter messes found on our family room carpet from said curious helper {future post to follow re. that}. We have been a crazy house of decking the halls. Love this time of the year.

And, amidst all of the decorating, comes Advent.

Ad vent
Noun: 1. The arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.

The waiting. The anticipation. The sweet expectancy of a tiny babe. There is something mysterious about it all, isn’t there? How the God of the universe came rollin into the world as a helpless newborn. Yep. God moved into the neighborhood.

I want my children to know the magic of the Christmas season. Not just the gift giving, or the pretty lights, or the sparkly colors… but the extravagant love made complete in the Christ child. So, we tell the Christmas story and we wait and prepare for his arrival.  I believe most all of the beauty that the Christmas season entails helps us to direct our eyes to this miracle.  If we look for it.

This morning, we began our advent calendar countdown.  I’ve been burning the midnight oil while sewing this bad boy up over the past couple of weeks.  I wanted to be intentional with it, so I wrote up 24 different little activities, crafts, or adventures that we will be doing each day together.  Here is some of what we’ve got planned…

Make paper snowflakes
Make a gingerbread house
Watch the Grinch that stole Christmas
Get a special toy and deliver to the food bank
Dinner out and Snowflake Lane
Make these
And these
And play this game
Sing Christmas carols by the tree
Visit Santa and walk around Garden D’lights
Make cinnamon dough ornaments
Have a Christmas party
Decorate Christmas cards for one another
Make Christmas cookies and deliver to our neighbors

This morning’s activity was to sip hot cocoa straight up with mini marshmallows.

This is her stick a camera in my face, I’ll give you a cheesy smile face. God love her.

What kinds of special things are you doing this month to celebrate the Christmas season? Do tell.
