Pose ~ Simple Things Sunday {
July 17, 2011 10:22 pm
It was not the best of weeks for this little man. Not gonna lie. My patience was tested several times, as it sometimes is being a mamma.
We had to re-visit this verse several times…
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault
in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you SHINE like stars in the universe.
~Philippians 2:14-15
The SHINE like the stars part is Ben’s favorite part. I like that part too.=)
Even though it’s been a tough week, I found solace in tucking my little boy into bed at the end of our days. As he asked me to sing our song, “you are my sunshine, my only sunshine” again and receive another drink of water, his little fingers playing with my hair and little eskimo kisses, reminded me that my life is complete. Even though it was a rough week.
I asked him to strike a pose for me.

I feel like I shouldn’t be posting right now. On a Saturday night and all. But, I am on a roll today right now with editing, so I’m going with it.
Just a little sneak peek here for my brother and his beautiful family. They brought Sawyer Henry Reynolds into the world on July 5th and I COULD NOT be a prouder Auntie. I just love my super cute nephews.
I drove down last week to photograph this little guy. Our session was a short one, as I had my two kids with me and they were QUITE excited to meet their new cousin. Needless to say, we could not get Sawyer to sleep with all of the commotion. Plus, I was under the gun just a bit, due to needing to get back home for naps.
However, my vision was to shoot a more relaxed, “real” newborn session anyway, so it all worked out. I purposefully left my backdrops and props at home, because I wanted an in-home cozy feel and I think that’s what we got.
Kyle and Laura, Lincoln and Sawyer… we love you dearly and are so excited for your family!

I traveled South for another High School friend’s extended family session this past Saturday evening. It was great to meet Angie’s whole family! They were just finishing up a fun family day on the lake, so we took advantage of some pretty light and grabbed some shots.
I hope you enjoy your sneak peek, dear friend. Many many more to come…

Floppy hat and freckles ~ Simple things Sunday {Monroe, WA photographer}
July 3, 2011 2:30 pm
Faithful old floppy hat has come out to join us in our Summer adventures again. Tucked away in one of his drawers, we pulled it out on one of our warm days last week and he has donned it proudly, traipsing around our yard, looking for worms and snails as he often does on sunny afternoons.
And, the freckles too. Oh, those sweet freckles. They seem to dance upon his face when he is out running around underneath the Summer sun.
**Sidenote: Buckteeth. Yes, I just wrote that my kid has buckteeth. A trip to the dentist a few weeks back, reminded us all that it is high time for him to start loosin the thumb suck. In fact, so much so, that Dr. Rama has given us her cell phone number in case B takes a spill sometime and those two beautiful front pearly whites get knocked out. Unfortunately, we know our future with Ben will hold a very large orthodontist bill. ugh.
It is time. My mind says it is time. My heart… that is a different story. Why do I feel my heart strings tugging when I think back to him toddling off to bed, droopy pj’s, blankie dragging, inserting thumb and pointy finger in mouth, and then snuggling up to me as I tuck him in? It has always been his little ritual before naps and bedtimes and the beauty of self soothing.
And now, it must end. He is not a toddler any longer. He is a boy. And, oh how he lights up when we tell him that. “Ben, you’re such a BIG boy!”
So, a few weeks back, we had a discussion about it. How it is time. Explaining to him why and offering up prayers that God would help him with this.
And, you know what? It has been a breeze… Other than catching him mid-sleep with his thumb in his mouth and really only having to remind him a few times, “Ben, member what we talked about?” he has been pretty fierce in doing it all on his own and in his own will. It is as if he knows too… recognizing that he is growing up. My strong little boy.
Anywho… floppy hats, freckles, and buckteeth. This concludes my Simple Things Sunday posting for the week. And, if you’re new here and wonder what Simple Things Sunday is… let me refresh you. The past few weeks, I have gotten into the habit of posting an image or two from our previous week and linking it below… something that has made me smile. Something that has blown me away. Something simple that stops me and reminds me to be thankful. There really are so many. Even in the midst of living my {simple} life. I hope to continue on with this project and challenge you to look for those things in your life which are simple, yet extraordinary.
Happy Sunday to you all!

Art for Dad {Simple Things Sunday ~ Monroe, WA photographer}

This post is a bit late, as I had intended to post yesterday, but weekends can be a bit crazy around here sometimes, especially if you are out of town! Anyway, I am forgiving myself and posting one day late. Think I may try and make this a habit {posting every Sunday… maybe a quick re-cap of our week/one frame and linking up to this blog! I love the idea of noticing and catching the ‘simple things’ that made me smile throughout the week. Keeps me grounded and focused on why I do what I do. If you are up for this challenge, then I welcome you to link up too!
Last week’s art project was to paint a large banner to surprise Jeff with on Father’s Day. The kids had fun finger painting and I win the SMART mom award for going outside to do this, as paint was EVERYWHERE! Bonus: as much as I want to replace our ghetto looking concrete patio with a nice composite deck someday, the plus of photographing on it is the natural reflector that comes from the pavement and the side of our white house. Win win every time!
G-mama had the BEST time with the paint!
