Friend {King and Snohomish County child and family photographer}

August 26, 2011 · 8:57 pm

I was having a hard time trying to find a title for this post, so I settled on one word.

Short and sweet.

Friend.

Friend.  Because that is what I think of when I think of my girl, Michelle.  She defines the word to me…  in my life.

I think I get along so well with my sista friend because we are fairly similar.  We are both nerds at heart {and I can say this, because it is true} and although our silly antics can annoy our husbands at times {especially when multiplied by two when we are together}, we still know how to be real with one another.  And, dang can we talk.  Talk about life, our kids, our passions, our businesses.  The list goes on and on.  Often times, I come home from our time together, and Jeff asks me how it was…  I usually say, “Oh, we talked about photography.”  And, he says, “You talked about photography for TWO hours???”  Yup.  Girlfriend and I know how to roll.

And, I must say…  Michelle is a triple threat too.  You know how they say that about J.Lo or Justin Timberlake?  Well, she is a triple threat in the Arts…  Girlfriend can sing {she leads worship at our church}, take a mean photograph {yeah, you may know her work HERE…  she is the Massta of weddings, maternity, and newborns…  often referred in larger circles as:  The Baby Whisperer}, and although, I have never seen it, I have heard she can dance too.  I am sure she can bust out a mean running man.  Yeah.  Triple threat right there.

And, like I said…  she is a friend.  A good one, at that.  She is loyal and supportive.  She is the cheese to my cheesecake.  The wonder in my Wonder bread.  She has acted as my mentor when I first started my crazy photography pursuit and business three years ago.  Like Yoda and Luke Skywalker or Mr. Miyagi and the Karate Kid, she has been my cheerleader through and through.

And, she is one beautiful lady as well.

I met up with the Newells this past Wednesday evening down by the river {why do I always hear Chris Farley’s voice when I say:  ”down by the river”?} for their fun family session.

Newell family…  we love you dearly and are so glad to be doing life with you.  Thank you for your friendship.

Beautiful mom and daughter moments…

Mammas, can I speak to you briefly?   Aren’t we usually the ones behind the camera?  The ones that are running to grab that great shot of our kid doing something fantastic?

Well, let me say this to all of us hardworking moms…  It is good to get in FRONT of the camera at times too.  With our family.  With our spouses.  With our kids.  These moments we have with our children are so fleeting and down the road, I want my kids to see images of me right there with them…  not wondering, “Where was mom in all of these pictures?”

SO, I challenge you…  make it a point to get in FRONT of the lens with your children sometimes.  Do what I have been doing lately.  Set your camera on auto and self timer the moment.  Turn the camera around and take that shot.  OR…  hire a photographer or a friend to take some pictures of you and your family together.  You won’t regret it.

And… a few out-takes I couldn’t resist posting of my silly friend.

Sweet Emma Ruth {King and Snohomish County newborn photographer}

August 24, 2011 · 10:09 pm

I spent a nice afternoon with this fun family this past Sunday, photographing their new gift: Emma Ruth. I was also privileged to photograph Susie when she was pregnant with this little one.

They have a beautiful home and we did most of these in their bedroom, where the natural light flowed in. It was such a warm day, that once Emma fell asleep, we moved outside for some shots there.

D family, thank you for asking me to photograph this special time in your life. Enjoy your sneak peek!

**As always, this family will receive a FREE 5×7 with their print order, if they receive 10 comments under this blog post.

I ADORE this image… partly because of the sentimental value in it. Susie asked me to capture a few images of tiny Emma in her family’s heirloom cradle.

Maui | Part II

August 23, 2011 · 10:13 pm

Part II of our wonderful time in Maui… Hang on, it’s a long post. If you missed Part I, check it out here.

We spent one morning exploring Old Lahaina town, known for it’s shopping and huge banyan tree right in the middle of town.

Jeff teaching Ben how to throw up the “hang loose” sign. It is funny, because since we’ve been back, both Ben and Grace still do it. This morning at breakfast, they requested we listen to this song, and half way into it, Grace, in her tiny voice, squeals, “Shaka!”

Climbing the banyan tree

We played an impromptu game of hide n seek

Found you!

Classic Ben right here… He means well. I KNOW he loves his sister, but often his love for her changes his well intentioned hug into a headlock.

Obligatory self timer family photo.

And, of course… ice cream for lunch isn’t a bad idea at all.

******************************************

We headed North on another morning to take in part of the drive up to Hana. Jeff and I SO wanted to do the whole thing, but we had heard it was about a 4-5 hour trip, after stopping for several hikes to waterfalls, so we thought it was best, with two young children to just do a mini drive and stop for one hike.

We decided on Twin Falls.  It was a short hike and not far up the road.

Pretty flowers along the way

I must admit, that I was in “hiker” mode on this particular day, paving the way ahead, with G-mama strapped to my back in the ergo, a little annoyed at the fact that the hike was in fact, a gravel road, and lined with a couple of port a potties from the start. I think I was expecting to blast through the Hawaiian jungle with a machete in hand, clearing the way for my family behind.

I get like this sometimes. A woman with a mission. My pace was quick and sadly, I forgot about the fact that we were also hiking with our 4 year old as well, whose strides are a LOT slower than mine.

When we arrived at the waterfall, once again, I let the crazy unshaven armpits girl get the best of me. Jeff looked at me like I was crazy, when I suggested we keep going… “maybe, a bit off the beaten path, I bet there’s another waterfall up the trail…” Hopeful, it would be a bit more majestic. A bit more quiet, since we arrived at our waterfall at the same time several other tour groups were getting there as well. This place definitely wasn’t quiet.

I surrendered in when I realized our two kids were hot and sweaty and ready for a snack. And soon thereafter, realized, that I did in fact, LOVE the sight in front of me.

We enjoyed our snacks, while I chomped at the bit to take my swim. **FYI: swimming in a waterfall has always been on my bucket list and I have only done it once before, while on our honeymoon in Kauai.

I waded in with Ben and we swam out as far as my feet could touch with him, while I watched him reach out his arm and touch the streams in front of us. His smile was as wide as it could be. “We’re swimming in a waterfall,” he yelled!

And, then of course… I dropped him off with Jeff and Grace under the cliff and I took my swim back out, breath held, diving under and surfacing above, right below it.

I have told Jeff before, “There is nothing like jumping into a FRESH body of water.” The exhilaration you feel when you plunge into a lake. The way the coldness takes your breath away for a second. The feeling of diving down into the streams of this waterfall. Running into the big, blue Pacific ocean. There is a wildness about it.

Nothing in the world like it.

Kids splashing around in the wading pools nearby

The view from our hike into the waterfall.

Thought you might enjoy some out-takes of our two lovelies…

“Hmmm… let me get my arm around you, my sweet sweet little sis.”

“Yeah, that’s right… it’s headlock time again!”

And, one last image for this post and I will say goodnight…

The colors of a rainbow…  so pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces…  of people going by

I see friends shaking hands…  saying how do you do

They’re really sayin…  I love you.

Char and Brian | wedding {Snohomish and King County couples photographer}

Part II of Char and Brian’s special day… If you missed their engagement session by the river, check it out HERE.

I joined this beautiful family this past sunny and warm Saturday to photograph their small home wedding. The day was not only a celebration of Char and Brian joining in marriage, but also a large family reunion as well.

It was nice to have Jeff with me… He was a great assistant to me during family portraits and also acted as Brian and Char’s officiant. Fun to see him up there marrying a happy couple=)

Here are just a few of the images I got from the day!

Largest family I have photographed to date!

Char contacted me a couple of weeks back to ask if I could photograph her wedding held this past weekend. I typically don’t specialize in weddings, but after chatting a bit about what Char was wanting and since it was held outdoors, I said yes and we made our plans. One of Char’s requests was to meet before hand for some nice casual pictures of Brian and herself… and, their beloved dog, Luna. We had lots of fun at the river for their engagement session and Luna ran and ran!

Every time Brian and Char would get close, Luna was there to cuddle in also. Such a fun dog! And, I love that they wanted her included in many of their images, as we all know a pet is truly part of the family. {I know that is the case at our house, since presently, even as a I type, our 85 lb. yellow lab is fast asleep on the couch behind me}.

Brian and Char… it was a pleasure to capture the love you have for one another. Here is a sneak peek at our time at the river together… More images to come of your family reunion and wedding!

Young man {Duvall, WA Senior Photographer}

You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!
~Dr. Seuss {Oh, the Places You’ll Go!}

This young man is going places. He comes from a super family… Jeff and I were Young Life leaders when his older brother was in high school and I was his younger brother’s First grade teacher {back in the day}. And, here… Collin fits nicely in the middle.

He enjoys gaming on his laptop, soccer, and quad riding. So polite and friendly, I can tell he is going to be successful in whatever he chooses to do.

Collin, your future is looking bright. Best wishes to you!

Enjoy your sneak peek… and remember, he will receive a FREE 5×7 with his print order, if he receives 10 comments under this blog posting.

Maui | Part I

August 17, 2011 · 10:26 pm

We had such an amazing time on the island of Maui a few weeks back! So restful and relaxing… I have a million images from our trip, so I thought I would post periodically in snippets, when I have a moment, to share some of the beauty we beheld there and all of the adventures we had together. We were truly blessed to get to go and are already talking about returning in the future.

I’ll start with some images from the local Farmer’s Market we visited several times throughout our visit. It happened to be right up the street from our condo, so we headed there to grab yummy fresh fruits and vegetables, which was perfect, since most of our meals we prepared ourselves in the kitchen of our condo. How can you go wrong eating fresh papaya and sipping cocoa brown Kona coffee on the lanai overlooking the ocean every morning for breakfast?

The kids had fun getting henna tattoos on their feet.

Stopping off for some Hawaiian shaved ice.

After one of our visits to the Farmer’s Market, we headed North for a hike down to the Nakalele blowhole.  Such beautiful scenery on the way down.

There was a cool heart formation formed out of the rocks there.

The road back to town… loved the red dirt and the beauty of the Maui hills.

More images to come… stay tuned!

Sweet Pea {King and Snohomish County Family Photographer}

Sweet Pea.

Mama’s precious nickname for her little cutie. I loved it! At just 5 months, this little guy was taking in all of his surroundings and I think he enjoyed hearing the clicks of my camera.

I’m so grateful to meet new clients through this adventure {called my photography business} and I especially enjoyed meeting this new family and I am excited that we got to use a new location too {chosen my mom}. I love finding new places to shoot!

Enjoy your sneak peek, Udd family!

Expecting {Monroe, WA maternity and family photographer}

August 12, 2011 · 7:57 pm

I am back from our wonderful break away! Although, I am going through Maui withdrawals this week, I am glad to be HOME… back into our routines and schedules. I have a zillion images to get to and post about from our vacation, and I hope to do so soon, but FIRST, I wanted to get up this expectant family’s sneak peek!

What a beautiful mamma to be. There is something special about a pregnant woman. I TRULY believe it is a magical time and Susie wears her expectancy just gracefully. She exudes natural beauty… that is something that I am always drawn to in a person and it is my hope that these images show that as well.

And, Bruce! What a cutie. He was all smiles for the camera and VERY interested in the river bed rocks. I am excited to get to see this family again soon for their newborn shoot and capture more of the love they share for one another!

**Show the love… This family will receive a FREE 5×7 with their print order, if they receive 10 comments under this blog posting.
